South London based vocalist and producer Sola has returned with her latest single, ‘Oh My Love’. The huge range of artists who inspire her can be felt in the track’s opening moments, even before her deep, soulful voice first begins to provide gentle melodies. Soul, R&B and electronica can all be felt within the accompaniment, full of shuffling drums and dark, memorable synth sounds. Her own vocal performance harks towards Nina Simone, with a darker edge coming from her own love for the cinematic sounds of the likes of Portishead; the resultant sound is something Sola calls "warped soul". Lyrically, the track touches on toxic relationships, while the video that accompanies the track is a 90s-style lockdown creation. Her forthcoming EP drops in 2020. -Dan Peeke
